“This event is so fitting as a love story. Joanna Furnace is a love story in and of itself. You see, 150 years ago the love story between Miss Jennie Grubb of Lancaster and L. Heber Smith of Joanna Furnace began. After meeting in the fall of 1867, they became engaged in March 1868. That means they would have had the Valentine’s of 1868 as their first. They married in June of that year.” says Mark Zerr, Executive Director of the Hay Creek Valley Historical Association.

The Valentine’s ambiance will be enhanced by area vocal stylist Phyllis Hummel. She will play her acoustic guitar and sing a variety of romantic ballads throughout the breakfast hours. Ms. Hummel is a familiar face to the local music scene. She has been performing for more than 30 years in the Tri-County area and has been the featured performer at many area establishments.

Your Valentine and your family will also travel down memory lane by learning about the Historic Joanna Furnace Iron Works community. February marks the kick-off for the 2018 programs that our offered by the Association. Breakfast attendees can learn about all the exciting events, activities, informational programs, educational programs, restoration and archaeological projects for the upcoming year.
