Many volunteer opportunities are available with the Hay Creek Valley Historical Association. Individuals and community groups such as churches, boy and girl scouts, Lions Clubs, and even assisted living communities are encouraged to come out and volunteer for our organization and help fulfill its mission of preserving our local heritage.

Volunteers are currently needed in the following areas:

Grass Trimming – In order to maintain the beautiful historic grounds of Joanna Furnace volunteers are needed throughout the year to mow and trim the grass. We supply the mowers, weed eaters and gas. This project can be done anytime throughout the year – during the week day, in the evening and on weekends.

Gardens – Many of our gardens at Joanna Furnace need attention. If you have a landscaping background or just a green thumb to help develop our gardens give us a call. Community organizations are welcome to adopt a garden area and help beautify our site. You can bring your own garden tools or use ours.

Sewing – Volunteers are needed to help sew patches on shirts and pants for the scarecrow building stand at the Hay Creek Apple Festival. This project can even be done in the comfort of your own home. We will supply the thread, needles, patches, shirts, and pants. Just contact us ahead of time and we will have the items ready for you.

Cleaning out your dresser and getting rid of clothing? Well if you have long sleeve button down shirts or any type of hats – give them to us!!

Archaeology Volunteers – Sift through Joanna’s history and join our archaeology team to uncover a part of our treasured history. Starting in May and working each Thursday and Sunday volunteers can work with our experienced team to learn archaeology techniques and procedures. This opportunity is open to families and children over the age of 12.

If interested in volunteering in one these area or learning how your community organization can help please email the Hay Creek Valley Historical Association at info@haycreek.org
